“Movement with the human body is like a complex machine, and if it isn’t running efficient it’s more likely for wear and tear.”
This month, we are rejoined by Jeff Moyer of DC Sports Training to discuss cutting. Jeff has an extremely unique background in this being mentored by Dr. Yessis and uses a different technique to teach his athletes how to cut in a technical matter. Jeff starts out discussing what he sees the factors that impact agility, how we (as coaches) evaluate it, and where he sees the pros and cons of both of those. Jeff breaks down the three “lenses” that he sees coaches viewing agility from and how all three are important. This leads him right into how he teaches the technique of cutting, both teaching/learning methods and the skills involved. These techniques include, how he progresses the actual hard skill of cutting, and specialized exercises that he uses that have direct carry over to how he trains these skills.
These techniques are some that I have utilized with my athlete’s and have had some sensational improvements in sporting results with our college basketball players when it came to driving by their defenders, or keeping attacking players in front of them. Take a look, and let me know your thoughts and if you have any questions on how we progress these skills as well.
