This month’s Coaches Corner is a community member request, and that is a breakdown of the knee drive exercise I learned from Dr. Yessis and Yosef Johnson. In this overview, I discuss why this exercise is important and unique, the proper technique (or at least how I teach it), the top 2 mistakes I see when my athletes perform it, and how to correct those issues, and how I progress it with our student athletes.
Of all the exercises that I have learned from Doc and Yosef, this is the one that I would say is the biggest “bang for your buck”. It’s the easiest to teach/learn, progresses quite quickly, has carry over to multiple “general sporting actions”, and is easily “sold” to athletes. Add that into the fact that it can be combined with some of the other specialized exercises that Dr. Yessis has developed, and you have a smorgasbord of reasons to learn, teach, and prescribe this fantastic exercise.
We are hoping to provide the best possible content for strength coaches with each of our shows. If feel this could provide value for anyone else in the strength and conditioning field please feel free to share.
