Coaches Corner #1 Jay DeMayo, University of Richmond – The Paw Back Exercise

In the first edition of Coaches Corner we are going to review an exercise that I learned from Dr. Yessis and Yosef Johnson, the paw back. I chose this exercise because Dr. Heidersheit discussed that most hamstring injuries occur right before plant phase in running in episode 31 of The Podcast. We then started talking about this exercise as a good injury prevention (if that really exists) exercise.

In this brief overview I go over why we use it, the equipment necessary, and how I have progressed it with our athletes. I finish out with a few examples other people have shared with me that they use, and ways we have implemented it with our more advanced athletes.

We are hoping to provide the best possible content for strength coaches with each of our shows. If feel this could provide value for anyone else in the strength and conditioning field please feel free to share.
