The last chapter of The Manual Vol.2might be one of the more complicated topics in sports performance. That topic is “vision training,” and Moyer does a fantastic job at exploring all the facets of this elusive training stress and how a sport coach or strength coach can make simple changes to see results in their athletes. I felt this chapter was superbly put together in a way for the reader to comprehend the way vision effects the sport in which any athlete plays. From the theoretical foundations, eye musculature, and practical drills; this chapter truly is a thorough examination. A lot of material included in this chapter came from two practitioners in the visual training landscape, through which Moyer drew his observations; those practitioners are Dr. Bill Harrison and Dr. Joan Vickers. Vision training is, let’s be honest, not regularly focused on in a lot of the programs designed to train are athletes to become ready for the game. Moyer provides great evidence for you as a strength coach to at least take a look (pun intended) at this form of training. I really enjoyed reading this chapter and I absolutely agree with Moyer in that what we do as physical preparation/strength coaches/sport coaches/trainers should be done with the transfer of our training in the forefront.
