In his second part of his two-part lecture for The Strength Coach Network, Charlie Weingroff touches upon how coaches can view Energy System Development in order to establish training results in the most efficient manner. Picking up right where he left off, Charlie dives deeper into the idea of “stress resistance” and why it’s important to develop for athletes, and the four factors that are impact stress resistance. Charlie connects the two lectures discussing how limitations of energy production and general fitness impacts motor skill acquisition, and how cuing and individualization fits into ESD.
The meat and potatoes of this talk then comes when Charlie starts to talk about an anti-glycolytic training approach and how hypoxia and acidosis impact all aspects of the training process. Charlies in-depth and analogy filled discussion on how different methods effect the four mentioned factors that impact stress resistance. This includes how he sees the training week being set up, along with particular guidelines for each day of the week.
All too often coaches talk about these “theories” without and in-depth actual break down as to what these systems are, why they’re important in ESD, and how to improve them. Well, Charlie does just that, and delivers it in only the way he can, filled with great analogy’s that convert the heavy science down to ways that anyone can understand. I can say, first hand, that we have had great success utilizing very similar means and methods as what Charlie shares with us here, and could NOT recommend this hour-long presentation enough.
