My Thoughts Monday #31-Jay DeMayo, University of Richmond-What We Say We Do May Corner Us

“So that would be like saying, ‘Team X last year had 7 ACL injuries, Team X this year only had 2. Does that mean that the strength coach did a better job with this team this year or the team last year? What if the team last year, even though they had more than triple the injuries had a better record, won a championship, went far in the tournament?”

This My Thoughts Monday is brought to you by GymAware, the leading tool to measure your athlete’s weight room performance. Learn more about “The Rolls Royce” of bar velocity monitoring here: https://kinetic.com.au/gymaware.html

In this weeks My Thoughts Monday I share a discussion I had with a coworker on the responsibilities the strength coach carries when it comes to what we are attempting to improve in our athletes. We, as a profession, like to say that we “decrease the risk of injuries”, but today I share why I feel like us saying that is our main objective may put us in a corner when the rubber hits the road when injuries happen.

We are hoping to provide the best possible content for strength coaches with each of our shows. If feel this could provide value for anyone else in the strength and conditioning field please feel free to share.
