“Peak performance really is an output of a well rested brain and body.”
Dr. Meeta Singh joins us to discuss the role and nuances of sleep in athletic performance in this weeks edition of The Podcast. After a brief intro, Dr. Singh breaks down exactly what sleep is by definition, and how we can quantify it to help our athletes with it. This includes the role of naps, how athlete’s can utilize them to improve performance, and some negative impacts they can have. She then runs down the rabbit hole of a student’s social life and some “party favors” and how they can inhibit sleep and decrease it’s potency. This leads her down the road of sleep monitors, how effective they are (or aren’t) and what a lack of sleep can do to performance. Make sure to give her a follow on Twitter: @athletesleepmd1
