Today we are joined by NAKOA Performance and Therapy’s Ryan Gallop to discuss the training of Rugby athletes in a high performance model. Ryan starts out diving right into some of the issues and confusion around the views on, not just the sport, but some of the common training models he sees within Rugby. This leads him right into his model, where these ideas came from, and why there needs to be a distinct difference between training American Football and Rugby athletes. He then dives into how he sets up his programming along side the coaching staff, including how these conversations drive KPI’s that they use to make sure that the training is providing the results that the coaches and athletes are actually looking to achieve. He then discusses the role of the “fundamentals” of sprinting and cutting, and how important technique work is, even with athletes at the highest level. This includes a unique way that they plan on implementing a part whole approach to practice warm ups with a team he gets to work with. Make sure to check him out on Instagram @rg1nakoa, and @nakoaperformance for all they’re doing to help athletes get better, and check out www.rugbynation.com and nakoafit.com for more on those actual training programs he has been utilizing.
