“In all successful sprint programs the main focus is on fast sprinting across different distances and intensities over much of the year.”- H. Andersson
Strength coaches looking to develop a sprint program or work on speed training for their respective teams should read this chapter. Andersson does a fantastic job of going through the different aspects of sprinting and focuses on the particulars at each phase as it relates to muscles used and the forces that are at play. Along with detailed descriptions of what to work on where, the graphs, tables, and pictures are very well done and accompany the text extremely well.
While the first part of the chapter is what goes into sprinting and acceleration (muscles, joint angles, body positions, techniques), the second half of the chapter is where you will found applicable information you can start implementing with your athletes today, such as plyometric training, resisted sprinting protocols, and weight training all aimed at improving sprint performance. After reading this chapter you will be able to help your athletes get faster, whether it be on the track or the field.
