This book was recommended to me by a friend in the personal training field. He told me that it would provide a new perspective on just about everything in my life and in particular, I would gain invaluable knowledge in dealing with people. He was not kidding! I was blown away with the concepts and principles that Dale Carnegie used in this book to illustrate the powerful effect we could have if we just treated people differently. In strength and conditioning the vast majority of our interactions are with the athletes, which is in part what makes our jobs so great! This book will help you to see things from the other person’s perspective (mainly the athletes in our case) and ultimately help you get the most out of them. More importantly, this book will help you become a better person.
The structure of the book is split into 4 parts, with each part discussing a new topic of dealing with people. Such as, “Fundamental Techniques in Handling People” and “Be a Leader: How to Change People without Giving Offense or Arousing Resentment”. The original copy of the book was written in the 1920’s, but it has been revised to the “changing currents of present-day life”. Included are remarkable examples of dealing with people from some of America’s most famous historical people; John D. Rockefeller, Theodore Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, Charles Schwab to name a few. If you want a book that is easy to read and will provide you a challenge personally then I recommend you read How to Win Friends and Influence People.
