2024 Seminar

The Elite Return To Sport Performance Symposium

Queally Athletics Center, University of Richmond

Richmond, VA, July 20th and July 21st, 2024 Presented by The University of Richmond Department of Athletics

Welcome to the Revolution in Sports Performance!

Are you ready for an unprecedented experience in continuing education?

Get ready to witness a revolution in sports performance! We’re thrilled to present this July’s edition of The Seminar, The Elite Return To Sport Performance Symposium. Unfortunately, athlete’s get injured, and bringing them back better than ever is the goal of all return to play protocols, but one thing consistently gets in the way, a lack of communication and a common language between strength coaches and sports medicine professionals. That’s where this summer’s edition of The Seminar stands out from the rest. This exclusive event is designed for strength and conditioning coaches, athletic trainers, and physical therapists to help bridge the gap between professions to help us ALL be better for those that matter most, our athletes. This isn’t just a seminar; it’s an immersion into a world where setbacks can now become setups for unparalleled comebacks. To do this, I knew we had to come back to our roots and bring the “200-person round table and BBQ back home.” This summer’s event we are fortunate to partner with The University of Richmond and will come back to campus in the brand new Queally Athletics Center!

Why Attend?

Simply put, you have things limiting you from reaching your ideal results in both your training programs and your return to play protocols. Shoot, we all do. But what are some of these things and how can The Seminar help , not just you, but your whole staff eliminate these predicaments?

Communication errors and issues with common language: After reading the results of hundreds of survey responses this was the most common response. Sports medicine practitioners and strength and conditioning coaches, for whatever reason, still seem to be speaking different languages. How do we correct that? We all get in one room, we sit down and discuss situations that we all have been through, and will again, and we talk through what is what, and how things can be better with other amazing staffs from around the world!

Knowledge levels of each person is limited: You can be knowledgeable or know enough to be dangerous. We’ve all been there, shoot I’m still there in many aspects of what we are aiming to do, and of course you don’t need to know “it all” but you do need to know enough to help contribute better support to your “team behind the team”. That starts with becoming a master of your domain first and then doing all you can to best understand and learn the strategies that your colleagues are utilizing to help your athletes improve. This is where you can now collaborate, evaluate, and evolve to grow better systems and find different means to an end to improve all aspects of performance.

Lack of confidence and support within staff: This is an awful place to be, and trust me when I say this, it’s one that you can work your way through, it just takes time and effort. It could be your lack of confidence in your decision making because you want to be 100% certain you’re going to help the athlete improve and not put them in a bad spot, or it could be your sports medicine practitioner being nervous about if the athlete is ready to be “passed on” or not, or even your confidence with the athletic trainer’s ability to “prepare them to train” so that you can help the athlete get back on the field/court. But if you’re collaborating from the start and everyone is on the same page from day one, this can be so much smoother, and help the athlete come back faster and at a higher level then you could have ever expected

But how can we get passed these issues?

Dr. Ernie Rimer –“Navigating Athletic Recovery: Integrating Technology, Analytics, and GPS Metrics in Comprehensive Rehabilitation Strategies”

Synopsis:

The use of technology in rehabilitation is a crucial element in modern sports medicine, but the process begins well before injuries occur.  Information gathered before an injury is necessary to profile rehabilitation exercise demands, and to establish baselines and normative data to guide decisions about returning to after an injury. The goal should not be merely returning to competition but returning to performance.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Delineate between return to play, return to competition, and return to performance.
  2. Recognize that rehabilitation is an interdisciplinary process, and leveraging health and performance team member expertise provides the greatest benefit for the athlete.
