As we enter this “coaching carousel” time of of the year there are some things that we need to keep in mind, but the biggest thing is the idea of “culture changes” that are asked of some coaches. This week, I discuss some issues with subjective questionnaires that we have seen with coaches trying to coax certain answers out of their athlete’s. This week, I share my thoughts on the whole Chelsea not lifting weights because they don’t have weights on them when they play. I think we, as coaches, are missing the forest though the trees when we start to have arguments on this and need to focus less on what these great athletes are doing now, and more on what they were doing to become what they are today.

We, as coaches, like to talk about how we can control volumes and look to apply the most effective dose of training, but how does that change in season for your developmental kids? Most of them are practicing a ton, but are you killing them in the weight room? In this weeks My Thoughts Monday I discuss this and some things we do for those kids to keep them engaged during a long season where they will get no “reward” for their work, that’s all done behind the scenes.
